Choosing Joy in 2015
Hopefully 2015 has started off with a bang! I hope everyone has felt the blessings and the love of The Lord so far this year.
For those who are struggling since the turn of the new year, you are not alone. 2015 has been no picnic for me and we are only 8 days in! If anyone else has been facing difficult times recently, or for a while, then keep your head up!
I’ve had to reflect multiple times a day on a few of God’s truths to keep strong when hard situations are thrown at me, and here they are! I hope they can help you as much as they are helping me :)
If you’ve followed my blogs for the past year, you’ll remember I have had my spout with depression. I am relieved to say I have and am overcoming it and, in a way, I thank it for stripping me of everything so that I would rely fully and completely on The Lord. My relationship with Him is so much stronger and truer than it has been in my entire life. One verse that hits home and touches my heart every single time I read it is Philippians 4:8:
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.”
It reminds me that only good thoughts come from God. Nothing that is hurtful—no demeaning thought—is ever from God. So when things that steal your self-worth creep into your mind that is the devil trying to get to you. So only think about things that are lovely.
Next, always choose joy.
You have the choice to not let negative things dictate your attitude. This past week back at work seems to have been laced with frustrating situations daily. But I made the decision to not dwell on the things that were upsetting me, and instead reflect on my day and find something I am grateful for. You may have seen some on Instagram ;) Frustrations of the day should not steal the days God has given you.
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
Being a Christian is a daily struggle. It’s a battle against darkness and hatred—a battle against the devil. He attacks you at your strongest and tries to break you down to steer you away from the glory of The Lord.
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you.” Proverbs 3:3
God never promised an easy life as a Christian. Most may view Christians as “having it easy,” but that is not because our circumstances or situations are easy by any means. Our lives look easier because we choose to hear God’s truths and rely fully on Him to protect and care for us. We rest knowing that His love for us will never fail.
“My God is my protection, and with him I am safe. He protects me like a shield; he defends me and keeps me safe. He is my savior; he protects me and saves me from violence. I call to the Lord, and he saves me from my enemies. Praise the Lord!” 2 Samuel 22:3-4
Never let your expectations of a “perfect day” ruin a day full of trials and annoyances. Your day is what you make of it and what you focus on. Your life is what you make of it and what you focus on. I’m choosing to focus on whatever is pure, true, noble, lovely, and praiseworthy, and I hope you do too :)
